Self Care Saturday

With Adam's work schedule being anything but predictable, our life constantly shifts between insanity + all the chaos and all the freedom in the world. It's comical really. Just when we both feel like we couldn't possibly survive one more crazy day, the calendar opens up like the clouds parting after a storm. And all of a sudden we're in vacation mode. If you thrive on steady, consistent predictability, I'm not sure self-employment is a path you'd enjoy. But we love it.

I'm sure you can guess that when Adam is working long hours, I am working long hours by default. Momming and running a business during those weeks feels impossible. I do try to schedule taking care of myself. I mean, actually writing specific workouts, "paint my nails," "take a shower," "go to bed early" in my planner. But I know self care gets put on a shelf until things slow down.

This weekend brought some relief, and we had a whole day of fam time. And I made sure to factor myself into the free time! Bath relax time for me. I wanted to share this lovely epsom salt bath recipe with you, because it looks pretty and is so relaxing. I've been major crushing on my Apotheke candle given to me by a friend. Apotheke is a Brooklyn-based candle and soap maker that has replaced my Volcano and Boulangerie obsession.

With stress comes dull skin and breakouts. I love how an epsom salt bath draws out toxins, and my Redefine clay mask exfoliates and draws out all the gunk from my pores.

My takeaway from my Self-Care Saturday: Self care is a necessity, not a luxury. I need a break like this during a chaotic week, instead of as recovery from. How do I make this moment happen when I'm in the most overwhelming days? Something I am learning daily!

For the bath salts: 2-3 cups Epsom salts, 2T lavender buds, 2T chamomile flowers, 10-15 drops Doterra Serenity blend. Mix together in a glass, airtight container. Add about 1/2 cup to a warm bath.
